Shelter Needs Bath Towels Bath towels are urgently needed for the clients at The Salvation Army Berberian Homeless Shelter and Transitional Living Center. New or used towels will be grate-fully accepted. Other items needed are blankets, sheets (twin size), and toiletries. United Way and Wells Fargo will be collecting these items or you may drop them off at The Salvation Army office and receive a donation receipt. Kaiser Grant Received For the second year in a row, the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Region Community Benefits Program has awarded The Salvation Army Modesto Citadel a $75,000 Essential Services Pro-gram Grant. Recognizing the Social Services Department as a “single point of entry” where clients can receive all the help needed or a referral to another source, they have chosen to provide for some of these program expenses. This money pays the salary of a social services caseworker and a truck driver to deliver food from the food bank, among other things. Grants writer Debra Qualls says, “This $75,000 is a huge shot in the arm to enable The Army to reach more needy in this time of economic downturn.” The Salvation Army Gives Five-Year Katrina Report The Salvation Army received $382 million in donations for emergency response services following hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma in 2005. To date, $157 million was utilized for immediate disaster recovery and $225 million has been, or is being, used for long-term recovery.
Programs continue in “community capacity building and resiliency.” |

| They’re coming to us for a safe place to play. To learn, to grow into young men and women of character. These are kids from families with parents who worry about them after school — some of them might even be your neighbors. The Red Shield Center in Modesto provides what kids need most: guidance, security, friendship. | ![]() |
